The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into force on 1st October 2006. The Order encompasses almost 100 items of previous Fire Safety Legislation. This legislation requires the Responsible Person to implement General Fire Precautions for the safety of employees or persons who are legally on the premises or in the immediate vicinity of the premises.

The ‘Responsible Person’ is the:
• Person responsible for business premises
• An employer
• A self-employed person with a business premises
• A charity or voluntary organisation
• A contractor with a degree of control over any premises.

Private homes are not included unless they are a place of work i.e providing care in the community
The ‘Responsible Person’ must provide: “adequate fire safety training” that must be “suitable, sufficient and appropriate” and be “repeated periodically”.

Our Fire Safety Courses are structured for 3 to 3.5 hour presentations that are suitable for the ‘Responsible Person’, ‘Fire Wardens/Marshalls’ and ‘employees’ alike.

The theory sessions covers the following syllabus:

  • Regulatory Reform Order 2005

  • Risk Assessments

  • Duties of the Fire Marshall

  • Fire Prevention

  • Chemistry of Combustion

  • Classification of Fire

  • Fire Behaviour and Development

  • Methods of heat transfer

  • Extinguishing Methods

  • Fire Extinguishers and Extinguishing Media

  • Fire and Emergency Evacuation Procedures

Presentations are on ‘PowerPoint’ which include video clips where appropriate and are delivered using a laptop computer and projector.
This is followed by a practical session where delegates discharge fire extinguishers of the type that are applicable to their workplace, to extinguish real fires. The fire scenarios are conducted using environment acceptable gas fired simulators in a safe and controlled manner. Scenarios include flammable liquid fire, bin/pan fire and TV/PC monitor. Risk assessments for ‘hot training’ are provided. A clear outside area approximately 5 metres x 5 metres such as a car park or yard which is clear of combustible materials should be made available for the above training.
We can also supervise and observe Fire Evacuation Drills and offer advise and a de-briefing service as well as setting scenarios and adding realism to your drills.
We can tailor courses to individual client needs (cost depending on number attending and course contents).

For the smaller companies and businesses we also hold 'open courses'. These are held on an 'as required' basis. To register an interest for your staff to attend an open course, please fill in the web form by clicking on the 'contact us' link in the main menu.
Prices are available on application.
Fire awareness courses have been very well received by our clients and some of their recent feedbacks can be seen in the 'Testimonials' section.
